Last night Alex and I watched Star Wars (the original, Episode IV: A New Hope) and I was beyond thrilled that he really wanted to watch and seemed captivated by the movie that captured my imagination almost 30 years ago.
When the words "Star Wars" came on the screen, he read them in a most excited voice. When the oh-so-familiar (to me) trumpeting music began, he immediately began "conducting" madly.
When Darth Vader walked into the Rebel spacecraft early in the movie, Alex gasped "ooooh, that's a ghost!" When I told him it was Darth Vader, he said, "Oooh, he's scary. I wouldn't want to be near him."
This morning he looked at me and said "You know what Mommy? You worry about those fighters, I'll worry about the tower!" (This is one of Luke's lines from the final battle scene.)
Last weekend, The Empire Strikes Back was on TV at my ILs' house. I was surprised to find that the girls were both glued to the screen, and they did not want to leave until it was over (even though I have all 6 movies at home on DVD).
I remember that the first time Vanessa watched Episode IV, she had a lot of questions about good guys and bad guys. And she was really interested in Darth Vader.
